Workshop on regional climate change assessment and impact analysis

SASSCAL Logos short course

There will be a training course on “Regional climate change assessment and impact analysis”

Place: Stellenbosch/South Africa

Date: 20th to 24th February 2017

Preliminary Agenda

SASSCAL Short Course Regional Climate Change Assessment and Impact Analysis (171 KB)

What is the workshop about?

The aim of the workshop is to support participants in using data from climate models for practical applications in the field of climate change impact research. The main focus will be on the use of downscaled climate model data. We will therefore provide information on the background of regional climate models and climate model data in terms of availability and accessibility, as well as data formats and transformation of data so it can be used for climate impact assessments. We will further elaborate on the analysis and interpretation of regional climate model data in terms of data quality and uncertainties of future projections. Finally, we will also provide a series of practice examples of how regional climate model data can be used for climate change impact assessments for various sectors. We will use a combination of lectures and hands-on sessions throughout the workshop in order to enhance the practical relevance of the training.

Who can attend the workshop?

The workshop primarily addresses students and researchers within SASSCAL who are working with climate data. However, in the case that places are left, interested people from universities and other research organizations, governmental and public authorities, are also welcome.

Where will the workshop take place?

The workshop will take place at CSIR in Stellenbosch/South Africa.

Who is giving the lectures at the workshop?

The course will be conducted jointly by the Climate Service Center Germany (GERICS) (SASSCAL task 006), the Council for Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) and the Climate System Analysis Group (CSAG) at UCT (both SASSCAL task 203). Lectures and hands on sessions will be held by experienced senior scientists from the respective institutions

What else should you know?
