GERICS develops advisory modules for the integration of climate change into development strategies. Based on a modular principle, the GERICS adaptation toolkit for cities (Stadtbaukasten), has been developed for decision makers in cities and communities.

The GERICS company toolkit (Unternehmensbaukasten), was developed in cooperation with the German foundation “Stiftung 2°, Deutsche Unternehmer für Klimaschutz“. The objectives are to analyze the strategic approach regarding adaptation to climate change in selected member companies and the development of useful climate services.

Currently under development is the so called GERICS Regional Modelling Toolkit, which aims to help analyzing the impacts of climate change on all essential characteristics of a given region (soil, forests, ecosystems, cities, economy, etc.).

The modular design permits better identification of future areas for potential action. For this purpose, the iterative, transdisciplinary process of information generation, processing and provision is further developed and implemented, in order to improve the efficient linkage of scientific and user knowledge.

The Adaptation toolkit for companies is a prototype product that supports decision makers in the private sector in identifying, developing and implementing effective policies regarding adaptation to climate change. Currently, the toolkit consists of six different module groups which cover the most important key areas for enterprises. In close cooperation with a given business, the suitable contents are individually identified, defined and modified as necessary. If needed, a new prototype development is performed and the application within the company is evaluated scientifically.
